LOUIS) — Jon Lester pitched 7 2/3 innings allowing four hits, one run, no walks while striking out seven, as he outdueled Adam Wainwright to help the Boston Red Sox top the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 in Game 5 of the World Series Monday night.

The Red Sox now lead the best-of-seven series, 3-2.

Lester wins his second game of the series for the BoSox.

“The biggest thing was that we were able to get the fastball down in the zone,” Lester said. “Obviously these guys are a very good fastball hitting team and you try not to let them get extension. (David Ross) Rossy did a good job back there of keeping me under control in this environment.”

David Ortiz once again had a great night for the Sox, smacking three hits and driving in the game’s first run. Ortiz is now 11-for-15 from the plate (.733) for the series.

“I just see the ball and hit it,” Ortiz said when trying to explain his hot hitting. “I try not to put pressure on myself and not try to do to much.”

The Red Sox are now one game away from winning the World Series.

Game 6 is Wednesday night as the series shifts back to Boston. The Cardinals send rookie Michael Wacha to the mound to face off against John Lackey.
