(UNIONDALE, N.Y.) — Buffalo Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta was handed a 10-game suspension on Tuesday for his illegal check to Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson’s head last week.
Kaleta is a repeat offender and had an in-person hearing with the league Tuesday afternoon.
NHL’s chief disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan said that Kaleta took “an improper angle” and that his shoulder made direct contact with Johnson’s chin.
Kaleta has been fined three times and suspended three other times in his career.
He’s already served two of the 10 games that he’s been suspended for and is eligible to return Nov. 2 against Anaheim.
