Christie Brinkley’s Modeling Advice to Daughter

Hamptons Magazine(NEW YORK) — Christie Brinkley has some advice for daughter Sailor, who is already following in her mom’s model footsteps.
In addition to the practical — “Have fun with this job but always be professional” and “Show up on time and be respectful of everybody else’s time” — Brinkley has warned her 15-year-old daughter, Sailor Brinkley Cook, about the dangers in the modeling industry.
“Nowadays, you also have to be aware of the dark part of modeling that comes along with the shiny, light, bright, happy part,” Brinkley said in the December issue of Hamptons magazine, which features Brinkley, Sailor and son Jack Brinkley Cook on the cover. “I told her, when you’re in a magazine, buy the magazine and look at it like 90 percent of the people who are going to see the story on you; don’t look online because the story will roll right into a comments thread, and those comment threads are an invitation for the bitter and disenfranchised to hide behind a fake name and try to tear you down — and nobody needs that in life.”
Sailor, who has already appeared in Teen Vogue, signed with IMG Models earlier this month in a deal that includes her mother. She admits that being the daughter of a supermodel has come in handy.
“It got my foot in the modeling world, but otherwise it’s pretty normal,” she told Hamptons magazine about growing up Brinkley’s daughter. “I’ve never been followed by paparazzi, except when I’m with my mom.”
Brinkley went through a highly publicized divorce and custody battle from Sailor and Jack’s father, architect Peter Cook.
Despite the advantages having a famous mom has given her, Sailor is ready to strike out on her own.
“As much as people say we’re twins, I don’t think I look like my mom that much, so I think I can make my own identity in the modeling industry,” Sailor said.
