(GAINESVILLE, Fla.) — Georgia Southern (7-4; 4-4 Southern) of the Football Championship Subdivision upended Florida (4-7; 3-5 SEC), 26-20 on Saturday to hand the Gators their worst loss in school history. Florida had never lost to a team in a lower division.
The Eagles won the game despite not completing a pass. Senior quarterback Jerick McKinnon rushed for 125 yards and one touchdown while teammate, freshman quarterback Kevin Ellison had 118 yards rushing and two scores.
With the game tied at 20, McKinnon reached the endzone on a 14-yard run, giving Georgia Southern a six point lead with 2:57 left in the fourth quarter.
It’s the Gators sixth straight loss and has guaranteed them their first losing season since 1979.
