The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 21 points at 15,618.22. The Nasdaq Composite rose three points to 3,939.86. The S&P 500 gave up five points to close at 1,762.97.

A JPMorgan global strategist told the Wall Street Journal that the markets will “send mixed signals in the short term.”  Andres Garcia-Amaya told the Journal this week’s economic data has been “fairly strong, but the market is confused about if it should like that or not like that.”

The major indexes are already close to record level in part because the Federal Reserve’s decision to continue its stimulus programs.  Without certainty about when the Fed will begin to cut back stimulus measures, investors are having a hard time managing execrations.
