Jennifer Lawrence on Miley Cyrus and ‘Young Sex’ in Hollywood

Fotonoticias/FilmMagic(LONDON) — Image is everything for Jennifer Lawrence and her Hunger Games character, Katniss Everdeen. She says she didn’t want Katniss to look too thin on the big screen because of the young girls who would be watching the Hunger Games movies.
Lawrence says in an interview with BBC Newsnight, “When we were doing the first The Hunger Games, it was a big discussion, ’cause it’s called The Hunger Games — she’s from District 12, she’s obviously under-fed, so she would be incredibly thin. But, I just kept saying, ‘We have the ability to control this image that young girls are going to be seeing.'”
The 23-year-old explains, “Girls see enough of this body that we can’t imitate, that we’ll never be able to obtain, these unrealistic expectations, and this is gonna be their hero, and we have control over that.”
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire star admits that the sexualization of young females in Hollywood is a big problem. She says, “Sex sells, and for some disgusting reason, young sex sells even more.”
However, when asked what she thinks about Miley Cyrus “twerking with a dwarf,” Lawrence replied, “Everybody’s got their own path and they’ve got their own way of finding themselves. For some people, that’s how they feel best, that’s how they feel sexy and that’s how they want to perform… to each their own.”
Meanwhile, Lawrence took time out from her red carpet duties at the London premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on Monday to console a crying fan in a wheelchair. She walked off the red carpet at the Odeon Leicester Square to personally speak to the young girl who was behind the metal security gates. She spoke to the girl briefly, signed an autograph, took a photo with her and gave her a hug.
