(FORT WORTH, Texas) — Jimmie Johnson is once again the leader in the chase for the Sprint Cup after a dominating win Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway.
The five-time Sprint Cup champion now leads Matt Kenseth by seven points with just two races to go. They were tied entering Sunday’s event.
“I hope history doesn’t repeat itself,” Johnson said. “That is the perfect example of this thing isn’t over until it’s over. Last year we had eight great races and two bad ones and didn’t get the championship. … There are two very important races left.”
Johnson’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. ran second, while Joey Logano, Kenseth, and Kasey Kahne rounded out the top five.
The victory was the 66th of Johnson’s career, including a record 24 wins in Chase races. The Chase now heads to Phoenix for a race next Sunday.
