GETTY 112513 Syria? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1385372843751Matt Trommer/Thinkstock(LONDON) — Thousands of children have been killed in the first 30 months of the conflict between Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government and rebel forces.

Most of the estimated 11,000 victims ages 17 and under have died as the result of bombs or shells, according to the London-based Oxford Research Group think tank.

Meanwhile, it’s believed close to 400 of the war’s youngest casualties were killed by sniper fire, nearly 75 were executed and more than 100 died as the result of torture.

The actual death toll of children could actually be higher because the count only involves victims who could be named and details about how they died.

All data was provided to the London group by Syrian civil society organizations, which compiled the casualty lists.

It has been reported that since March 2011, more than 115,000 people have lost their lives in the ongoing Syrian civil war.
