“I get to bring out a lot of my sense of humor at The View, but doing stand up comedy, which is what I love, it’s just me on stage talking, kind of taking you through my journey,” the 46-year-old mother of one said.  “I tell behind-the-scenes of what happens at The View like when Bill O’Reilly came and made Joy [Behar] and Whoopi [Goldberg] mad and they walked off the set.”

Shepherd also dished that she’ll share a behind-the-scenes look at her experience on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.

Still, the How I Met Your Mother star has been thinking carefully about what she’ll say up on that stage, especially in the age of smartphones where audience members can easily tape her performances and share it on the Internet.

“Some things could be offensive or edgy and when you have somebody taping you and [putting] your pieces of work in progress out there, it lends itself to filtering, which is what you don’t want.  You want to see the finished product,” Shepherd explained.

And just in case the crowd gets rowdy and she has to go toe-to-toe with a heckler, Shepherd told ABC News Radio she’s prepared.

“I haven’t had any hecklers in a long time.  Thank goodness!  But hecklers, you just have to shut them up and it’s pretty relatively easy because you have the microphone,” she said.  “I look at hecklers as they just want to be up on stage — they just don’t have the courage to actually get up on stage.”

You can check out Shepherd at the Gotham Comedy Club at two shows Friday evening and two shows Saturday evening.  For more information and to purchase tickets, visit gothamcomedyclub.com.
