(DETROIT) — Left-handed reliever Phil Coke and the Detroit Tigers avoided salary arbitration on Thursday, agreeing to a one-year contract.
The 31-year-old Coke appeared in 49 games with the Tigers last season, posting a record of 0-5 with a 5.40 ERA. He struck out 30 batters in 38 1-3 innings of work.
The Tigers acquired Coke on Dec. 9, 2009 in a three-way trade with the New York Yankees and the Arizona Diamondbacks. In four seasons in the Motor City, Coke has compiled a 12-22 record with a 4.34 ERA.
