(PULLMAN, Wash.) — Got organic milk? If not, get it.
Washington State University researchers say it’s loaded with more heart-healthy fatty acids than the milk you’re used to drinking.
On the other hand, lead author Charles Benbrook said in the study of 400 samples of organic and conventional milk that the latter has a much higher ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids than organic milk contains, which previous research claims is responsible for greater health risks.
However, Benbrook’s study, which is published in the online journal Plos One, might have to be taken with a grain of salt, so to speak, since he’s a former chief scientist for the Organic Center and may be partial to the more natural beverage.
Just the same, Benbrook says any health risks are outweighed by the fact that all varieties of milk are good for you, only that organic milk is the better choice.
