State Dept. Announces Additional $25 Million in Aid to Philippines
Published at(WASHINGTON) — Following a visit to storm-affected to Tacloban, Philippines, Secretary of State John Kerry announced that the U.S. government will provide an additional $25 million in aid funding.
The new humanitarian aid will bring the total U.S. contributions to about $86 million, providing for food, shelter, clean water and hygiene education and supplies for families impacted by November’s typhoon.
In a statement, Kerry also announced that the the U.S. will provide support to a microlending program and a partnership with Coca-Cola and Proctor and Gamble that would provide assistance with repairing and restocking over 2,000 small convenience stores.
Tacloban was considered the province hit hardest by the storm, with a huge death toll, thousands injured and scant food and drinking water.
