(BOISE, ID) — State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna will not be seeking a third term as the top School Administrator. Luna made the announcement Monday indicating he would not run for re-election stating a potential for political distraction as a reason. He does not want a campaign to get in the way of his efforts to implement recommendations of a recent task force. With his seat now open, this will open the way for both Democrats and Republicans to run. Republicans that have indicated their intentions to run are Grangeville teacher John Eynon and American Falls principal Randy Jensen. Idaho Falls Democrat Jana Jones of Idaho Falls ran back in 2006 and lost to Luna and is seeking the seat. Luna has not indicated whom he may endorse for the position.
