Austrian Anna Ferringer Takes Gold in Women’s Super-G
Published at(KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia) — Anna Ferringer finished her run in 1 minute, 25.52 seconds to become the third-straight Austrian woman to win the Olympic super-G event.
Austria has now won eight of a possible 24 medals that have been awarded since the super-g started at the 1988 Calgary Games.
Germany’s Maria Hoefl-Riesch earned the silver while Austria’s Nicole Hosp grabbed the bronze.
Hoefl-Riesch and Hosp both earned their second medals of the Olympics.
The course proved to be difficult due to soft snow as only one of the first eight skiers finished.
American Julia Mancuso, who said she felt hesitant after watching so many of her peers struggle, finished in eigth.
