Closer Greg Holland Avoids Arbitration With K.C. Royals
Published at(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) — The Kansas City Royals and All-Star closer Greg Holland avoided arbitration on Wednesday when the 28-year-old agreed to a one-year contract worth $4.675 million. He will also earn a $50,000 bonus if he makes his second All-Star squad this season.
Holland was asking for $5.2 million in arbitration, while the Royals were offering $4.1 million.
The Royals drafted Holland out of Western Carolina University in the 10th round of the 2007 MLB amateur draft. He made his big league debut in 2010 and took over as closer late in 2012. Last season, Holland saved a franchise-record 47 games and had a 1.21 ERA.
