Last Original Von Trapp Family Member Dies at 99

Imagno/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Maria von Trapp, the last member of the original Trapp Family Singers, has died.
Von Trapp, the second-eldest daughter in the family, died at her home in Vermont on Tuesday, family members told ABC News. She was 99.
In 1938, the Von Trapps escaped from Nazi-occupied Austria and came to New York. The musical family performed around the United States and then settled then in Vermont.
The family’s story was made famous in the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music, about an Austrian woman who marries a widower and teaches music to his seven children. The musical then became a hit film in 1965.
