NASCAR’s Denny Hamlin Wins Exhibition Race At Daytona
Published at(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.) — NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin took home the checkered flag in Saturday Night’s exhibition event, the Sprint Unlimited at Daytona. The 33-year-old won the race down the stretch, when he drove around Brad Keselowski and teammate Kyle Busch for the lead.
2013 was a tough year for Hamlin, who had a fractured vertebra in his back. He failed to qualify for the Chase for Sprint Cup championship for the first time in his career.
“It’s been a great start to Speedweeks obviously,” Hamlin said. “This is a very small part of what goes into this weekend, or these two weeks. But obviously it feels good to have all the accomplishments that we’ve had in such a short amount of time.”
By the time Hamlin crossed the finish line, only eight of the 18-car field were left on the track. Six laps into the second segment, a nine-car accident occurred after Matt Kenseth cut in front of Joey Logano
