(SAN DIEGO) — Arizona is back in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four years.
Aaron Gordon had 18 points, six rebounds and six assists as the Wildcats blew out Gonzaga 84-61 on Sunday in a dominating performance on both ends of the floor.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson chipped in 18 points for the Wildcats (32-4), who scored 31 points off of Gonzaga’s 21 turnovers.
“Tonight was one of our season’s best performances,” Arizona coach Sean Miller said. “Obviously, you want to play well in the NCAA tournament and that’s exactly what our team did tonight.”
Przemek Karnowski and Kevin Pagnos combined to score 26 points for the Bulldogs (29-7), who haven’t reached the round of 16 since 2009.
“That Arizona team we saw tonight was as good a team as we have faced, that I can remember,” Gonzaga coach Mark Few said. “It was just too much for us tonight.”
Next up for Arizona is a matchup against fourth-seeded San Diego State in the Sweet 16.
