(POCATELLO, ID) – Monthly flood insurance premiums are about to skyrocket for Pocatello property owners. The National Flood Insurance Program is suffering from a $24 billion deficit due to extensive flood damage in 2013. Last fall, major storms dumped several inches of rain in Pocatello, causing widespread flooding problems for hundreds of homes. City officials estimate that premiums will go up between 18 and 25 percent, noting that those who have insurance currently pay about $100 per month.
