(BOISE, ID) – The state House of Representatives passed the campus gun bill Thursday. In a 50 to 19 vote, lawmakers approved a measure that would enable people with the enhanced concealed carry permit to carry firearms on the campuses of Idaho’s public universities. Supporters say the measure protects private citizens and respects their constitutional rights. Opponents say it poses unnecessary security risks, and that only police should be responsible for protecting students and staff. The bill now goes to Gov. Butch Otter for approval.
