(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) — It was just another day in the office for the defending NCAA champions.
Brenna Stewart had 22 points and 14 rebounds as top-ranked Connecticut throttled No. 3 Louisville 68-48 to cap off an unbeaten regular season.
The Huskies (31-0, 18-0 AAC) won for the 37th straight time — the third-longest streak in school history.
“It’s something to be proud of,” UConn head coach Geno Auriemma said after defeating the Cardinals for the 14th straight time. “We don’t talk about it very often. We don’t stand on a podium and shout ‘We’re great!’ But we’ve done some really great things this past year and sometimes we need to step back and take a look at it.”
Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis added 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Huskies out-rebounded Louisville 47-30. They went on to add an American Athletic Conference regular season title to their collection of Big East trophies.
Louisville (28-3, 16-2) turned the ball over 16 times in its failed quest to forge a tie in the conference standings. Senior guard Tia Gibbs led the Cardinals with 16 points in the loss.
