The latest is with catcher Geovany Soto, who will miss the next 10-12 weeks with a knee injury.

Soto was forced to leave the team’s spring training game on Sunday after his knee locked up on him. He was squatting behind the plate and then he was unable to move his leg and needed assistance to get up.

“It’s an opportunity for someone else,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said. “Soto came in on a mission and it’s unfortunate this came up, but we’re going to move forward.”

This is the latest injury to the Rangers as it was recently revealed that second baseman Jurickson Profar will miss the next 10-12 weeks as well thanks to a shoulder injury.

With the departure of A.J. Pierzynski via free agency, Soto was expected to see a spike in playing time this season.

In 2013, Soto hit .245 with nine home runs and drove in 22 runs.
