(COEUR D’ALENE, ID) – A Coeur d’Alene teen has been charged with first-degree murder for the deaths of his father and brother Monday night. 14-year-old Eldon Samuel allegedly used a handgun, shotgun, knife, and machete in what police are calling one of the most horrific crimes they’ve seen in decades.
Samuel told investigators that his father took medications and often beat him. He also claimed his father frequently talked about zombies and that he shot his father because he was afraid of his father “coming after him,” court documents say, according to the station.
The documents say he informed officers that he “hated” his brother and said he mentally prepared to kill his father and brother for about eight months prior to the attacks. The family had recently moved to northern Idaho from California. Samuel will be tried as an adult and could serve a life sentence if convicted. He remains held in the Kootenai County Public Safety Building.
