It’s unclear what caused the hold up for Bieber, 20. According to his Twitter account, he left from Japan earlier in the day.

His rep had no comment when contacted by ABC News.

It’s not uncommon for customs and immigration officials to question non-citizens who arrive in the US and have open legal proceedings. The Canadian was briefly detained in February when his private jet arrived from Canada to New Jersey for Super Bowl festivities.

Bieber recently had problems with the law in Florida, California and his home country of Canada.

Earlier this week, Bieber apologized for tweeting an homage to the Yasukuni Shrine while he was in Japan.

“While in Japan I asked my driver to pull over for which I saw a beautiful shrine,” he explained via Instagram. “I was mislead to think the shrines were only a place of prayer. To anyone I have offended I am extremely sorry. I love you China and I love you Japan.”
