(LOS ANGELES) — Los Angeles Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton will undergo surgery after suffering a complete tear of the ulnar collateral ligament to the left thumb along with a torn capsule, the team announced on Wednesday. He’s expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks.
The five-time All-Star suffered the injury during Tuesday night’s game against the Seattle Mariners, when he slid head-first into first base in the seventh inning.
Hamilton was off to a fast start, batting .444 (12-27) with two home runs and six RBI’s in eight games.
