(NEW YORK) — The world’s largest mobile phone provider is taking steps to deter theft.
The Samsung Galaxy 5 S goes on sale next week, and the company says it will feature two safeguards users will be able to activate for free.
“Find My Mobile” and “Reactivation Lock” will lock the phone if there’s an unauthorized attempt to reset it.
Law enforcement officials have been demanding manufacturers create kill switches to combat surging smartphone theft across the country. Legislation has been introduced in California that would require mobile devices sold in the state to be equipped with anti-theft devices, starting next year.
