While authorities have not yet confirmed the report, they are working to determine why the driver of the FedEx truck drove across a median and into oncoming traffic. Ten people were killed in the fiery crash, including eight high school students who were traveling to visit Humboldt State University.

Glenn County Sheriff Larry Jones said on Friday that the fire — initially believed to have started after the wreck — “was almost immediate.”

More than 30 people were taken to local hospitals after the crash. Several of the victims were still recovering as of Saturday.

Investigators said that it could take months to determine the cause of the crash and that at the end of the investigation, they hope to make safety recommendations that could prevent another tragedy.
