Firework Kills Michigan Man After Hitting Him in Chest

iStock/Thinkstock(DETROIT) — A 44-year-old Detroit man was killed by a firework while celebrating the Fourth of July.

The man was lighting fireworks outside of his home when one of them flew directly at him, police told ABC News affiliate WXYZ-TV.

Officials said the firework hit him the in chest and exploded, killing him. He wasn’t immediately identified.

It’s unclear what caused the firework to malfunction.
