ITD Settles With EPA Over Asbestos Complaints

(SEATTLE, WA) — The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) will pay the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) $55,800 in penalties for alleged violations of federal asbestos regulations. The ITD is accused of hiring inmates from the St. Anthony Idaho Work Camp to remove floor tiles containing asbestos from a maintenance shop in Rigby without proper safety precautions. By agreeing to the settlement, the ITD is neither admitting to or denying the allegations.
