ABC 51514 ViewsHosts? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1405428951427ABC/Lou Rocco(NEW YORK) — Meredith Vieira, who served as the original moderator on ABC’s The View from its debut in 1997 until 2006, insists she has no desire to return to the show.

While promoting her upcoming daytime talk show, debuting in September, at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in California on Monday, Vieira, 60, discussed The View.

According to Deadline.com, she said, “I knew after nine years it was time to leave The View,” noting, “I have a pretty good sense of timing and I always like to get out before something bad happens.”

The TV journalist and talk show host has made several appearances on the program since leaving, and says she was treated “lovingly.” Vieira came to realize, however, that “you can’t go back,” explaining it would have seemed like the “crazy aunt going back.”

Vieira’s remarks come on the heels of ABC’s announcement this past Thursday that Rosie O’Donnell, who co-hosted The View from 2006-2007, will return this fall.

Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy recently announced their impending departures from the show, while co-host Barbara Walters retired from her on-air role in May.
