IDAHO FALLS, ID — Wednesday the Chukars went 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position, but still came away with a win. The Greybirds weren’t as fortunate Thursday. Idaho Falls went 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position in a 4-3 loss to Orem.

Idaho Falls (34-35, 15-17) is now facing an elimination number of three. Torey Deshazier (5-2) pitched well for the Greybirds, but the Owlz were able to connect on two mistakes to send the ball over the wall. Tyler Palmer connected on a fastball in the third inning to make it 1-0 Orem. Quinten Davis did the same thing in the fifth inning to make it 2-0. Deshazier did record nine strikeouts in six innings, and allowed just those two runs.

Meanwhile, Idaho Falls failed to take advantage of base runners against Arjenis Fernandez (9-4). Mike Hill tripled with two outs in the second inning, and did not score. Corey Toups doubled with one out in the third and did not score. Brawlun Gomez reached second with two outs in the fourth and did not score. The Chukars had runners at second and third with one out in the sixth and did not score. Toups again doubled with two outs in the seventh, and again couldn’t score.

The Chukars pulled within one run in the eighth, thanks to a Mike Hill two run home run, to make the score 4-3. Eduardo Peredes entered the game in the ninth inning, and immediately hit DonAndre Clark. Toups bunted the speedster to second. Idaho Falls was unable to bring him home.

The Chukars move to 4.5 games back of the Ogden Raptors (three games back of Grand Junction) with seven games left to play. Idaho Falls plays game seven of eight in a row against Orem Friday at Melaleuca Field.
