Drivers along the Gulf Coast can score the cheapest gas at $3.31 per gallon, while motorists in California pay the most at $3.95.

Prices may continue to fall, experts say, as long as tropical storms and hurricanes don’t threaten oil production facilities. Gregg Laskoski of Gas Buddy credits high output from U.S. refineries in July.

“The good news is here because of the exceptional performance we saw from refineries during the month of July,” Laskoski says. “The output of refineries was really at record levels.”
