(AMMON, ID)  — It was kind of like a pep rally for district employees. Bonneville School District 93 held its annual district opening meeting Tuesday morning.

Superintendent Dr. Charles Shackett spoke to a full capacity Performing Arts Center at Hillcrest High School about where the district was succeeding as well as some concerns for the coming school year.

Shackett addressed the overcrowding problem. A $92 million bond designed to build new facilities was recently shot down by voters. Shackett says they will go back to the drawing board to find something the voters can support.

Another concern that was brought up was the  “misconception” about the Idaho Common Core standards. Shackett told the crowd to “hold your ground” in support of the standards. He says that concerned parents should understand the difference between standards and curriculum.

Part of the presentation showcased some of the new technology that is available to teachers today. Shackett noted that the district is not in a position to get many of items he showed, but he is looking in ways to bring whatever he can to Bonneville schools.

Much of the meeting was filled with motivational videos and techniques to get the teachers and staff ready for the school year. The meeting ended with people from the crowd invited to come up to the front and present a rose to someone in the district who had had a positive impact in their lives and career. The final rose was given to Dr. Shackett, who then received a standing ovation from the capacity crowd.

The first day of school for Bonneville District 93 is Tuesday September 2.
