Ellen Pompeo Ready to Move On from Acting After “Grey’s Anatomy”

ABC/JORDIN ALTHAUS(NEW YORK) — Ellen Pompeo’s days in front of the camera may be numbered. She’s suggested that she will give up acting once her TV series, Grey’s Anatomy, wraps up.
Pompeo addressed the direction of her career at BuzzFeed Brews with Facebook Live, where she was joined by fellow ABC stars Kerry Washington and Viola Davis. She commented, “I definitely don’t have a strong desire to act after Grey’s.”
Pompeo, who’s entering her 11th season as Meredith Grey on the medical drama, added, “I feel myself transitioning. I don’t find acting terribly empowering.”
Pompeo, 44, said she wants to take on new challenges. That includes working behind the camera as she’s started a production company. However, she stopped short of saying she’s retiring from acting.
Pompeo is under contract with Grey’s Anatomy through its 12th season. Season 11 begins Sept. 25 on ABC.
