Redmond’s new deal now runs through the 2017 season as he had one more year left on his current deal.

“I’m just excited to continue this process of building this team and this organization in the direction that we know we’re headed,” Redmond said Sunday.

Despite finishing 2014 with a 77-85 record, the team has made significant strides on the field as the organization is filled with young talent.

“We sat down as a group and an organization and tried to figure out how we could get better and improve the ballclub. And we’ve been able to do that by 15 games in one year, which is not easy to do,” Redmond added.

Redmond, who played with the Marlins during his playing career, was hired as the manager back in 2013 and has a 139-184 record during that span.
