Reddit Bans Page Featuring Leaked Celebrity Pictures

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Online forum Reddit banned a page on its site that featured several leaked celebrity photos involved in a recent hack.
In a statement Saturday, website representatives said they “deplore the theft of these images” and “do not condone their widespread distribution.”
Nude photos purporting to be pictures of A-list celebrities surfaced last week and included Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton.
“We understand the harm that misusing our site does to the victims of this theft, and we deeply sympathize,” the site’s blog post reads.
The page was taken down after requests from lawful owners of the content.
Still, Reddit representatives said they are “unlikely to make changes” to their existing site content policies.
“The philosophy behind this stems from the idea that each individual is responsible for his or her moral actions,” the statement continues.
“We uphold the ideal of free speech on reddit as much as possible not because we are legally bound to, but because we believe that you – the user – has the right to choose between right and wrong, good and evil, and that it is your responsibility to do so. When you know something is right, you should choose to do it. But as much as possible, we will not force you to do it.”
