Report: “Modern Family” Actress Obtains Restraining Order Against Ex-Boyfriend

ABC/Mitchell Haaseth(LOS ANGELES) — Modern Family star Sarah Hyland has obtained a temporary restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, who she claims abused her.
TMZ reports Matthew Prokop has been ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from the 23-year-old actress and her dog.
Hyland, who plays Haley Dunphy in the hit ABC comedy, alleged in court documents that Prokop pinned her against a car, called her an offensive term and choked her during an argument about her outfit last May. Hyland stated in her filing that she suffered injuries to her voice as a result. She also claimed, “His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life.”
Hyland said she later enlisted the help of her Modern Family co-star and onscreen mother, Julie Bowen, to break up with Prokop at her home. She alleged that when he arrived to the home and saw Bowen and others, he ran outside to the backyard, began screaming, and threw a lighter at Hyland.
Hyland further claimed that Prokop threatened to set fire to one of her homes, and suggested that her dog would be taken from her.
Hyland alleged that following their split, Prokop “relentlessly bombarded me with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails including his own suicide threats.”
Hyland stated that Prokop entered a rehab facility in August and was released last Sunday. She said the director of the facility advised her to obtain a restraining order.
Hyland and Prokop split in August after five years of dating.
