Rockies Reward Pitcher Jorge De La Rosa with Contract Extension

Brian D. Kersey/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — The Colorado Rockies were not about to let starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa hit free agency as the two sides have agreed on contract extension.
De La Rosa’s new deal is for two years and will pay him $25 million.
The 33-year-old De La Rosa has been with the Rockies since 2008 and he has proven to be a solid, reliable starting pitcher during his time with the team.
Last season, De La Rosa had arguably the best season of his 11-year career as he went 16-6 with a 3.49 ERA. This season, he hasn’t had quite as much success as he’s 13-10 with a 4.26 ERA in 28 starts.
The Rockies are a pitching starved franchise. They rank near the top in most offensive categories in Major League Baseball, but dead last in Major League Baseball in team ERA.
