Furious Protesters Set Fire to Mexican Government Building
Published at(ACAPULCO, Mexico) — Protesters smashed windows and set fire to a government building in southern Mexico Monday, expressing fury over the disappearance of 43 young people believed abducted by local police linked to a drug cartel.
The demonstrations happened in Chilpancingo, the capital of the state of Guerrero.
Protesters could be seen burning photos of government officials. They also pushed over a delivery truck.
Smoke poured from the government buildings, with flames shooting from office windows.
The 43 students were from a teachers’ college and have been missing for over two weeks.
On Sept. 26, police opened fire on the students during a rally, killing at least six of them and taking dozens away. Since the incident, more than two dozen police officers have been arrested.
