IRS Scam Targets East Idaho

(AMERICAN FALLS, ID) – Eastern Idahoans are being targeted by phone scammers claiming to be from the IRS.
Officials say would-be victims are told that they’re entitled to major refunds, or that they owe money. Those who don’t pay up are threatened with arrest. They even call back later claiming to be local law enforcement.
Detectives say the phones frequently come from the 202 area code from Washington, D.C.
IRS officials maintain that they’d never contact anyone requesting financial information over the phone.
