The Wolverines leading rusher, Derrick Green, suffered a broken clavicle during the team’s loss to Rutgers Saturday and will miss the remainder of the season, Michigan head coach Brady Hoke announced Monday.

In six games this season, Green has rushed for 471 yards and three touchdowns for Michigan (2-4, 0-2 Big Ten) which is off to its worst start in Big Ten play since 1967.

Without Green the Wolverines will use sophomore De’Veon Smith, redshirt junior Justice Hayes and possibly sophomore Drake Johnson at running back.

“I’m very confident in the three guys that will be doing most of the work at running back,” Hoke said. “I’m highly confident in what they bring and what they can do.”

Green’s three replacements have combined for 411 rushing yards and four touchdowns this season.
Michigan hosts Penn State (4-1, 1-1 Big Ten) Saturday night.
