The accident occurred on Highway 121 just south of Bonham, Texas, when a car turned in front of  Hall’s vehicle, which was being driven by one of his close friends, spokesman Ed Valentine said. Neither driver was hurt.

The Republican congressman, who was returning home after attending the Fannin County Parade, underwent surgery Sunday to repair damage to his hip. Doctors at the Medical Center of Plano said the procedure was successful and that the he is expected to make a full recovery.

“Congressman Hall is in good spirits and appreciates the thoughts and prayers of friends and colleagues,” Valentine said in a statement Sunday.

Hall, who has served in Congress for 32 years, was defeated in a primary runoff in May.
