In the mag’s November issue, on which she graces the cover, Cruz, 40, discussed her acting career, saying she had “an attraction to drama” in her teens and 20s.

“Most of us have that, especially if you are an artist — you feel like you are tempted to explore the darkness,” Cruz explains.

“I could not be less interested now. For me, the most attractive, charming, cool, fun, interesting thing — how could I call it? A plan,” she adds.

One of the topics Cruz is unwilling to talk about is her personal life. When Esquire asked about her husband, actor Javier Bardem, or their two children, she replied, “That is for us.”

However, the Vicky Cristina Barcelona actress will admit she doesn’t feel like the sexiest woman alive, but more like a mother who doesn’t get enough sleep.

Cruz is also tight-lipped about her upcoming movie projects. All she’ll say about the first, the Spanish-language film Ma Ma, is that she suffers from an illness that she won’t reveal.

Of her part in the 2015 spy comedy Grimsby, starring Sacha Baron Cohen, Cruz reveals she’s been watching famous speeches to prepare for her part. However, she won’t specify which ones.

Cruz is the 11th woman to be named Esquire’s “sexiest woman alive,” joining a list that includes Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Rihanna, Charlize Theron and Scarlett Johansson.
