Rutgers Tops Michigan, 26-24 for 1st Big Ten Win

SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1412515080171iStockPhoto/Thinkstock(PISCATAWAY, N.J.) — Scarlet Knights senior quarterback Gary Nova passed for a career-high 404 yards and three touchdowns as Rutgers (5-1; 1-1 Big Ten) beat Michigan (2-4; 0-2 Big Ten), 26-24 on Saturday night for their first win over a Big Ten opponent.

With Michigan leading 17-12 with 1:43 left in the first half, Nova connected with sophomore wide receiver John Tsimis on a seven-yard touchdown to give Rutgers a 19-17 lead. The Scarlet Knights defense would take over, limiting the Wolverines offense to one yard in the third quarter.

Trailing by two, Michigan senior kicker Matt Wile attempted a 56-yard field goal with to 3:01 play in the game, but his attempt was blocked by Rutgers freshman defensive end Kemoko Turay.
