According to published reports, LaBeouf was spotted chasing a homeless man before ending up getting arrested after being disruptive inside theater, and spitting on a cop.

LaBeouf told Kimmel the incident began by drinking too much whiskey while watching the World Cup.  From there, the actor explained, he began speaking with a homeless man in preparation for playing a homeless vet in a movie, but the man got “spooked” by a passerby taking the actor’s picture and ran. The actor ran after him, but later lost the gentlemen — and that’s when LaBeouf ran into a fan who worked in Cabaret and offered him a ticket.

LaBeouf took the ticket eagerly, and although by that point, according to the actor, the “drunk was kicking in,” he made it to the play.

The night got progressively worse, when he got handsy with star Alan Cumming — or “Alan Tudyk — it could have been Allen Iversen at that point,” he admitted, and got lured outside and shortly thereafter was arrested.

In jail, LaBeouf admitted being scared for his life in a cell with six other inmates. He told Kimmel, “I figured…I was gonna spit on this cop’s shoe, that’s my way out…And he put a mask on me, a Hannibal [Lecter] mask on me and a lead jacket, and escorted me to my private dwelling where I stayed for 25 hours.”

So did he learn anything from the incident, Kimmel asked? “Yeah, I’m gonna stay away from Broadway for a bit,” he said to laughs.

“Broadway’s not the problem, it’s the whiskey, I think,” Jimmy said.

“Yeah, you’re probably right,” LaBeouf said. “And I’m checking that, too.”

LaBeouf was subsequently charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespass and harassment. In a plea deal, he pleaded guilty in September to disorderly conduct.

LaBeouf’s sentencing was deferred for six months while he completes three months of court-ordered substance abuse treatment.
