According to a readout of the meetings, which were “constructive and detailed,” the pair met with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and senior Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials. The American representatives highlighted the need to continue working to consolidate a coalition of nations against the, “terrorist network in what will be a long-term campaign.”

Allen and McGurk, “emphasized that urgent steps are immediately required to degrade [ISIS]’s military capabilities and ongoing ability to threaten the region,” the readout says. The topic of arming and training the moderate Syrian opposition was also a major topic of discussion during the meetings.

A joint military planning team is expected to visit Ankara next week and the two nations, “will continue a dynamic and deepening bilateral consultation process across multiple lines of effort against [ISIS].”
