A CDC press release notes that there are no direct flights from Mali to the United States, however, about 15-20 people each day leave Mali and travel through other nations on their way to America. The enhanced screening for travelers from Mali was implemented as a precaution due to “a number of confirmed cases of Ebola in Mali in recent days.”

The added screening will begin on Monday and will be identical to the screening used on travelers coming from Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, the three nations most dramatically affected by the outbreak of Ebola in West Africa.

The screening occurs at five U.S. airports — New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, Washington D.C.’s Dulles International Aiport, Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport — and any travelers from Mali scheduled to land elsewhere will be re-routed to one of those locations.
