More Grizzlies Eating Moths South of Yellowstone
Published atBILLINGS, Mont. (AP) – Army cutworm moths are a nutritious snack for grizzly bears.
And researchers say more grizzly bears are congregating each summer on steep rocky slopes in the southeastern portion of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem in search of the moths.
Frank van Manen of the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team in Bozeman says moths are an intriguing food resource that researchers want to keep track of.
Aerial surveys of 29 moth sites showed the moths can be a powerful attractant for grizzly bears.
