Idaho Statehouse Needs Accessibility Upgrades

BOISE, Idaho (AP) – Idaho officials are working toward making the state Capitol building compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Officials tell The Spokesman-Review that the cost for the upgrades is about $400,000.
The U.S. Department of Justice began looking into accessibility following a complaint two years ago.
That’s not long after a $130 million renovation was completed in 2010 on the building that first opened in 1912.
Work needed includes new wheelchair-accessible seating in the public galleries on the fourth floor and improved ramps and handrails in other areas.
Republican Senate President Pro-Tem Brent Hill of Rexburg says officials hope to have a signed agreement by the end of the year that the building is in compliance or has a plan to be in compliance.
