Italians Strike Against Gov’t Cutbacks
Published at(ROME) — In Italy on Friday, a national strike shut down public transit as protests erupted throughout the country against government cutbacks.
In Rome, protestors shouted into megaphones and struck the Ministry of Finance with eggs and firecrackers.
For the past six years, Italy’s economy has become bogged down in swollen government debt, entrenched interests, and political stalemate.
Prime Minister Matteo Renzi promises to loosen up the rigid labor laws by the end of the year.
